Let’s face it, we are busy! We are constantly on the go!

Whether it be to and from work, running errands or shuttling the kiddos to scheduled activities. The idea of cramming one more trip in and out of the car to the gym could send you right off the deep end! Maybe you have a little one at home, or have a tight schedule the doesn’t allow you anymore room to make it to the gym, even if you wanted to. Or maybe you can’t even stand the thought of walking through the front doors of the place and having to deal with finding a spot on the floor or fighting for a spin bike in the back row.

If even one of the above is YOU then setting yourself up to do your workouts at home might be  the answer! And I know what you’re saying, “I don’t like watching a TV to workout” or “I’ll never do it at home I can’t motivate myself”. Well, Karen you can’t get to the gym either?

And while the above may be true you must ask your self truthfully if you are looking for a solution or an excuse?

I have seen numerous people undergo amazing physical transformations while working out at home and I have also seen those who have never worked out find a workout they loved and become completely different version of themselves.

These are my top 5 reasons why you should workout at home:

1. SAVE MONEY: You should be able to save a ton of money by working out at home.  The gym I once belonged to charged a monthly membership fee, as well as additional charges if I wanted to join in a small group class or schedule personal training. There is no need for fancy equipment, treadmills or bikes that are thousands of dollars! 

I got started four years ago with Beachbody when they were selling their workout programs on DVD’s. Now all of their programs new and old can be found on Beachbody On Demand. Literally hundreds of workouts you can do right in your living room. All you need is a little space a yoga mat or a set of hand-weights to get started. There is the obvious cost for the app and minimal equipment but, over time it will be cheaper than paying for a monthly membership and you’ll save on the expense of getting you there and back.

2. Save Time:

The best part about working out at home is you make the schedule! You can choose to workout whenever you want. 10:30 in the morning or 10:30 at night!  You can also pick the length of the workout that best fits your schedule, you will also save time driving to and from the gym, changing in the locker room, and waiting for the class to start or equipment to become free.  All of this extra time often is equal to or more than your actual workout!

Like me you can literally roll out of bed and workout before you wake the kiddos up for school. Or if you are not a morning person you could come home from work, do a quick workout at home before dinner. If you work from home you can sneak a workout in on your lunch break or if you are a stay-at-home parent, being able to grab a workout while the kiddos are at school or the younger ones are napping is a huge bonus!

3. Come as you are:

You are home by yourself throw on your sneakers and get it done! You can literally wear whatever you want! At home, no one is going to care that you showed up to your workout in your pajamas! or a grubby T-shirt and your husbands sweatpants. Working out at home allows you to wear whatever you want without having to feel like you are being stared at or judged.

4. No Crowds:

You are the only member! Unless of course your family decides to follow suit and join you. Most gyms during the winter months are packed! Especially this time of year when the New Years resolution hasn’t quite worn off yet. And most of us have the same free pockets of time within our day to squeeze a workout in, so these times tend to be extremely busy at the gym. Not only will you wait for a machine, you’ll have to deal with a crowded parking lot and a busy locker room.

If the thought of working out in front of others, or battling the crowds makes you sweat than a home gym may be a much better fit for you.

5. Less Germs

Commercial gyms are filled with germs, from yoga mats and Bosu balls, to the machines, benches and weights. Although gym staff post signs asking members to wipe down machines and equipment after use, unfortunately not all of them do. At home you are the only one using the equipment and you can control how clean you keep it.

If you are a gym-rat! You have no issues getting there and are loving every minute of it, by all means keep up the GREAT work!

But, if going to the gym is holding you back from losing the weight or getting in shape, then you should try working out at home. Start off small like I mentioned above with some hand weights and a fitness app and see how it goes before you make a large investment. It may be the answer you’ve been looking for.
