According to research only 9% of people who make NewYear’s resolutions felt like they were successful! That is out of the 60% or so of us that admit to actually making a New Year’s resolution.

I am one of the 60% and I am also HAPPILY one of the 9%! I consistently make a few New Year’s resolutions, or goals for improvement over the course of the upcoming year. Mostly based on finances and health and fitness, but in recent years I have included a resolution that includes me doing my part to be more environmentally friendly. And I must say these have been the easiest and the most satisfying!

So here’s the deal….if you are someone who is looking to get in “THE” best shape of their life in 2020 it would appear that the odds are certainly stacked against you, but I can help!

Here are a few things I do in order to insure my success!

  1. BE SPECIFIC: Instead of saying “I am going to be in the BEST SAHPE of my life!” Define what that means to you. What does the best shape of your life look like to you? Do you need to lose 10 pounds? Would you like to train and complete a 5k or maybe even run your first marathon? Are you looking to get off certain medications, and by moving and changing up your nutrition that would be a real possibility?
  1. ASK YOURSELF WHY?: Take a moment to write down why you want to accomplish these specific goals. The more you are aware and understand and give each goal a specific reason the more likely you are to succeed. For example my continued pursuit of overall health is directly related to increasing longevity and is fueled by the fact that I want to set a good example for my children and to be the best partner I can be to my husband, Darren.
  1. BUILD A SUPPORT TEAM: I know you have heard this a bazillion times, but the buddy system is NO JOKE! Having a solid support system can help you stay motivated and go the distance! Share your goals with your close friends or family and ask them for help their help. Even better enlist the help of others by joining a group that shares your same goals. I have been extremely successful at staying committed because of the people I surround myself with daily.

So what’s your RESOLUTION for 2020?
